A word on the current situation

On behalf of all the staff at the Cancer Research Society, we hope that you and your family are doing well and that you are staying safe during this outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyday, our thoughts go to all of the people that currently have cancer. Being among the most vulnerable in regards to the coronavirus, we are wholeheartedly with them and their loved ones.

We know these are trying times for everyone, and we wanted to let you know that we are taking steps internally to ensure we do our part in containing COVID-19 and keeping our employees safe. A number of things are going to change in the upcoming weeks and, just like you, we are adapting with every passing hour. This is why we made a pre-emptive decision to cancel or postpone fundraising activities that were to be held in the upcoming weeks.

We have, nevertheless, put in place certain strategies that will enable us to continue fundraising, to honour our commitment towards researchers who were granted funding, so they can continue their research projects on cancer. In that perspective, we will continue sharing beautiful stories of scientific achievement, strength, and resilience with you because we all need some hope and joy in this moment of fear.

As many of you know, our direct mailing campaigns are sometimes prepared months in advance, so you will continue to receive letters from us in your homes. As we do not want you to leave your homes due to government rulings, to send out your donations, we encourage you to proceed to an online donation instead. It’s easy, safe and simply adapted to the current situation. Online donations are also instantly processed, which allows for your donation to make an immediate impact on allowing the Cancer Research Society to continue outsmarting cancer, right now.

With the announcement by government officials that all non-essential businesses must now close, it may become difficult for us, in the upcoming weeks, to continue opening mail and processing the physical donations we’ve received in the past few months. We thank you for your patience under these extreme circumstances.

In the meantime, we’d like you to know that we are so grateful for your ongoing support throughout the year. Although the world is on lockdown, cancer still continues to affect the lives of millions of Canadians. Let’s not forget that people with cancer are particularly vulnerable during these trying times and that research is more important now than ever.

Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to communicate with us at Our donor relations agents will gladly answer your questions and follow up on your requests.

Thank you for helping us outsmart cancer.
